A New Toy :-)

Going away on holiday has always been problematical for  a number of reasons. If it’s clear the big scope is back home and tucked up all nice and cosy in the observatory 🙁 I certainly wouldn’t want to have to remove the G11 off the pier and haul all my kit away with me, so usually end up taking a pair of 10×50’s. The binos are nice and portable and also serve for  daytime…

Country Life….with a bit of Photography

In my last ‘Country Life’ blog entry I mentioned that we had decided to start to identify and record as much Flora and Fauna on our policies. At the time it was just going to be a rather boring list of species, but I though it would be interesting to combine what  I know about photography and what I don’t know about macro photography, to try to image our various finds. Now while that…

Observing Session: 2, May

Tonight ended a run of what has been the best week of observing to date. Five clear nights at the scope in seven days. I’m knackered! These last few sessions, have now now pushed me past the half way mark through my Messier List. During the Month of April, I have been making a mental note of all the species of plants, birds and Mammals that we have either seen, or managed to capture on the wildlife camera. The most noticeable change in the surrounding countryside has been the turnout of cattle into the…

Observing Session: 30, April

Another clear night – the fourth in the last five nights and I’m beginning to feel quite knackered. I suppose I shouldn’t complain as I have been moaning for the last few months on how it would be nice to get more clear nights. This evening all the technology seemed to be working flawlessly. I’m now able to turn on and off the recorder at the right points 🙂 and the orientating of Skytools…

Observing Session 29, April

I have to admit that this session was a bit of a balls up in saving my observations long enough to get them written to the log.  However, with one failure, I have one success,  so the evening wasn’t completely wasted. So lets get the failure out the way first. I got myself a digital voice recorder a few months ago, but up until now, have never used it in anger. Until tonight that…
