Steve O’Meara’s Hidden Treasures

Published in 2007 I think this was Stephen James O’Meara’s third book of his Deep-Sky Companion series.

Unlike his previous two books, none of the 109 ( there are actually 131 targets in this list if you include those he added in Appendix C) objects in this guide appear in either the Messier or Caldwell catalogues and therefore there are targets that you may not have ever observed before.

This is the first time I have attempted to observe a modern ( and living) astronomers observing list. The biggest change though, this time all of these objects are being observed EAA.

With my 250mm RC and a CMOS mono camera, I stand more of a chance of actually being able to observe similar detail that SJM does from his high altitude Hawaiian mountain with a 100mm scope.

At the time of writing i think this book is now out of print, but you should still be able to find copies of it on Amazon, or any of the online used books sellers out there – probably at a silly price though. Even so, I would recommend you purchace a copy – and all his other books in this series as well. You won’t regret it.

Objects that I have made at least one observation is given in the ‘Observations’ column.
